Almost Real
Augmented reality explorations created in Adobe Aero. It only works with a smartphone or tablet, and best viewed through the Aero “App clip” (you’ll get the choice when you click through). Each experience wants to anchor to either a card, table, ground, or field, and if you don’t have the card, you can download the pdf here and print it.

Reality Explorations
Exploring ideas of scale, occlusion and the culled view. I usually walk around things. But if I walk through them, sometimes I can feel or even taste them.
I’m using the Meta Quest 3 and mostly Shapes XR for these explorations, though I’m also looking into some different creation and delivery platforms, including Lens Studio, Unity, WebXR, etc.
Video Installation
A spatial multi-feed video installation set up as a contemporary henge. A circle of inward-facing video screens invites participants to step into a closed but endless space and experience all-surrounding, perspective-shifting live feeds of themselves and others.”The Loop” premiered at Waveforms, a multimedia art event at the Boston Museum of Science.
After the one night event, the piece was moved to the Boston Design center for a couple of months of store-front viewing. Going through a few mutations during this time, they were a continued exploration on ideas of infinity, recursion, iteration and self.
Many thanks to Larry Zoll from LED Studios and Jeff Grantz from Illuminus Boston for helping to make this happen.
video projection
A 3-channel video projection mapping shown at the Illuminus Boston Festival on Lansdowne St in Boston, October 2015.
Camera and editing by Raber Umphenour
Automata and projection
Motorized toys, stripped of their cute to reveal their true super-powers – their sick dance moves. Projected fifty feet above you, like some mecha-kaiju that just came to party.
Altered Books
Since these original materials already come with titles, most of these pieces are eponymous or self-titled. It’s the title, and not as often the subject matter, that suggests how the book is to be transformed.
I still have a library of blanks.
